History
Enderlin is located in picturesque southeastern North Dakota. The townsite was purchased by Edward Pierce, acting as attorney for the Minnesota Land and Trust Company from Eleanor Olson, Ranei Gullickson and Johanna Pierce, and the official plot of the town filed October 7, 1891.
There has been much debate on the source of the town name. The myth that it derived from "end of the line" has been exploited, for Valley City, ND was the end of the St. Paul and Sault St. Marie (Soo Line) railroad tracks in 1891. Official Soo Line word is that it was named by Mr. F. D. Underwood, then General Manager, for a name he had seen in an English book he had read.
